Ahh...Saturday...

How I love Saturday's with no plans. Lately they have not been coming very often which is both good and bad. Good because I'm staying busy. Bad because I'm staying busy.

I've been hanging out with Fred and Shelby and doing my best cat impression. Sleeping. Staring. Sleeping. Eating. Sleeping. Using my litter box. Sleeping. Watching TV. Sleeping. I have not resorted to giving myself a tongue bath, though. Rest assured.

Last night Jef, 2F, Sandra, Paula, Karen and myself went to see the IMAX movie about the Shakleton expedition. Oh my goodness! This is truly an amazing story of human endurance. If you have the opportunity to see this show, I highly recommend it. If you react to it anything like I did, you will be awed.

Send healthy thoughts to Jeanette who's was home with the flu all last week. Jeanette! I hope you get well before Turkey Day!

Send healthy thoughts to my little Shelby, too. I don't think she's sick, but she's not her cute annoying self. I'm wondering if her feelings got hurt when I slathered so much attention on Fredalicious when she had her abscess and then left to go to NYC. Poor little thing.

Why won't MTV play more videos? Why do have to be awake at 3 or 4am to be able to see more than one video in a row? Whatever happened to Video Jukebox. Remember that station? You called in and requested videos by a 3 digit number and then waited for hours on end for it to play. At least you saw other videos waiting for your video to play.

Jonathan and I were reminiscing last weekend about how when were sophomores, which would have been around 1983, we would go to Shauna's house and watch MTV. She was one of the first of our group to get MTV. It was very cool to not have to wait until NBC's Friday Night Videos came on, or USA's "Up All Night" to come on to see videos.

Then, the summer between our sophomore and junior year, Mechelle and I went to Port Aransas with my Mom and stayed in a condo. They didn't have MTV, but we did stay up to watch "Up All Night" and we saw Bonnie Tyler's video for "Total Eclipse of the Heart." That was the song of the summer for me. Overly dramatic video, but it was cool.

Memories...Light the corners of my mind...Misty water colored memories...Of the way we were...(another overly dramatic song)

What memories do you have of 1983, or videos, or both?

Is it me or...

...did you see this whole Michael Jackson thing coming from 100 miles away? Poor guy. He's got some serious problems going on even if he's not guilty. I hope everything turns out for the best for all involved.

I'm still recuperating from my NYC trip. It's like I have jet lag, but I didn't even change time zones. I have now officially decided that I like visiting NYC, but I wouldn't want to live there. My sister, on the other hand, would live there in a NY minute. I think my nephew feels that way, too. I'm not sure.

Please send me your positive vibes regarding my work life. I'm struggling here and I have been for quite some time. I know that I need to move along, but with the job market the way it is, I would just like to maintain the status quo until the unemployment rates go down some more. However, our head honcho guy is flying in for a last minute meeting tomorrow morning, so maybe the decision has already been made for me. We shall see. I am trusting that all will work out.

I've started to hear people lament about buying Christmas gifts. I love gifts as much as the next person, but they don't mean that much to me. Maybe it's the way I was raised. Marti, Mom and I never had much money, so we did what we could, but more than anything, we enjoyed being together. We liked having a day off and eating good food.

Any money I have for gifts will most likely be spent (hopefully) getting my nephew from Dallas to ATL and then traveling to my sister's house. Then I will have the best gift of all: spending time with my two favorite people in the whole, wide world.

Thanksgiving will find me going home to Texas to stay with my "sister of a different Mother," Andi and hanging with her family. I am so blessed to have people who love me and call me their own like Andi's family. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they will be there for me no matter what. They are still waiting for me to get tired of this 'burg called Atlanta and move back to Texas. If that ever does happen, I can call on them and I know that someone will come help me move and that I'll have a place to stay when I get there. There is no question.

Today I am thankful for my family, (both blood and adopted), my friends, to be employed and for my furry babies, Fred and Shelby. What are you thankful for?

I woke up in a city that never sleeps!

Yes! I went to NYC! It was a lot of fun! I got to see one of my all time bestest friends in the whole friggin' world, Jonathan and that was the best part of all.

However, Saturday in the Park (it wasn't the 4th of July) was splendiferous! The sky was blue and it was a crisp fall day as we walked around. I felt like Woody Allen! No, that 's not to say that I wanted to marry my daughter, but as Jonathan and I walked down the "Literary Walk" and a man was playing saxophone nearby, I felt like I could have been in a Woody Allen movie.

We went and saw Strawberry Fields and someone had decorated it for the holidays. I thought that was kinda strange, but someone obviously felt strongly about doing that, and I say, more power to them! We walked by The Dakota on Central Park West. We attempted to go to the Museum of History, but it was packed.

We caught a cab down to FAO Schwartz and I gave into my Barbie fetish and went and checked out their Barbie section. We walked through the Plaza and saw that it was only $35.00 for High Tea and $29.00 for not-so-high tea.

We went back to the apartment and hooked up with Jonathan's friend Greg and went to Tony di Napoli's for dinner. Soooo good!!! From there we had a very tense cab ride to Times Square to make our show. Jonathan surprised me with Broadway tickets and I didn't know until we were there that we were seeing "Gypsy" with Ms. Bernadette Peters! It was really really good! Afterward we went to the Marriott Marquis and had cocktails in their lounge. I had a Broadway Blizzard and Jonathan was impressed that I wasn't self conscious about ordering it.

Sunday we slowly got up and made our way to the Staten Island Ferry to see Lady Liberty. She was very pretty but much smaller than I imagined. We then went back to Times Square and walked around during the day time. Jonathan enjoyed watching the illegal vendors who carry their fake Gucci purses around in a king sized sheet so that they can snatch them up and run when the police come around.

After that, we made our way back to Jonathan's 4 story walk up and just hung out eating pizza and Ben & Jerry's ice cream while watching movies. It was very nice!

This morning I was up at 4:30am. Geez! I was in a car driving toward La Guardia at 5:30am for my 6:50am flight to Cleveland. I got to Cleveland just in time to make my connecting flight to ATL. I landed at 11am, ran by the house to change clothes and eat lunch and was at work by 1pm. Whew!

All in all, a wonderful time was had. Thank you, Jonathan for being so generous with your time, your space and your money! I had such a great time!

I am bone tired...

My life has just gotten too busy. I like it, but at the same time, I wish I had some time at home, just me and the cats, puttering about the house. This is not going to happen until a week from Saturday. I'm putting everyone on alert: I love you all, but on Saturday the 22nd, I'm going to be at home doing nothing with the phone turned off.

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely ECSTATIC about getting to go to NYC to see Jonathan and the Big Apple. (Not to be confused with Jason and the Giant Peach) I love going to choir practice, and I love hanging with my friends. However I am a true Cancer in the sense that I tend to be a homebody and need that home time. The weird thing about it is, you would think my house would be clean since I'm never home, and as embarrassing as it is to say this, it's dirtier than it's ever been.

My conehead kitty is asking for food, so I'd better take care of her. Send her some good healing thoughts - we're going to the vet tomorrow. Hopefully she can quit being conehead kitty soon.

I love each and every one of you, whoever you may be!

Today was another great day. Went to church and sang with the choir. Heard a talk by a Taoist Monk named Master Chen. His main message was something we all know but some of us have a hard time heeding: Be kind to yourself and then you can be kind to others. This is the source of true happiness. Very cool, indeed!

I went to lunch with Merrideth, Bran and Joanne. We had a great time talking and eating. Then Merrideth and I sent Bran and Joanne on their way and we went to Garden Ridge. Merrideth got all kinds of excited about candles, and I FINALLY found a bed-in-a-bag that I like! YAY! We then bought and put on vampire fangs while we checked out. I think it gave us an edge when they tried to dispute a price. Who wants to dispute with a woman with fangs?

Merrideth and I had a nice talk while sitting in the Garden Ridge snack bar enjoying a Jumbo Beverage and a Cinnamon Apple Pretzel. (Celebrate the moments of your life...)

Back to Merrideth's house where I finally met the Wee-ners, Wolfgang and So-pee-uh. They are very cute and very cuddly. Merrideth twittered about the house lighting candles and making her bed and I enjoyed her very comfy couch and the company of a little wee-ner dog named Wolfgang.

Now I'm home and have put my new sheets from my new bed-in-a-bag in the washer and I'm listening to Norah Jones and Dido. What a lovely ending to a wonderful day!

Fred continues to be on the mend. She's trying very hard to understand that the collar is for her own good, but still makes me feel very guilty when I put it on her. That is the plight of a good kitty momma, I guess!

Today I am closer than I've ever been to being who I really am.

What a lovely day I've had! I went and hung out with Ginia. We went to the Avenue, we went to the mall and looked about, we went and got a spa manicure, pedicure and eyebrows waxed, then we met Lou for dinner. Very nice day indeed.

I love getting my eyebrows waxed, but I think that the girl took about 8 layers of skin from my eyelids. MAN! Did that sting like a momma!

I got "Ho" Red on my toes and "Virginal" pink on my fingers. It just goes to show you...never trust the first thing you see!

Fred is doing fine. Her hiney is getting better. She HATES wearing the damned Elizabethan collar. Shelby acts like she's never seen her before when she's wearing it. This could be a good thing in the long run.

I leave you this evening with this thought, "If you call a goat a pig, have you really accomplished anything?"

Sigh-uh-naw-ruh, y'all!

FRED IS HOME! She clicked her paws together and purred, "There's no place like home!" and POOF! She's here!

I brought her home from the vet this evening. She's looking like she's feeling so much better. Her hiney is so red and sore looking, poor thing! But she's holding her tail up which is a good thing.

She's having to wear an Elizabethan collar. I now understand why people who wore these things were so unhappy looking in paintings. It was because they were unhappy!

"Must See" TV is about to come on. More later...

...AND FINALLY...

Don't you hate it when you can't tell if your upstairs neighbors are fighting or having sex? In my mind, they were having a fight, it became physical, they had sex, and then they commenced to fighting again. It all sounded the same except there was intermittent stomping around in what I like to believe, are lead shoes.

Geez! I have entirely too much time to think about these things....!

I watched the special on Jesus, Mary and Da Vinci tonight and it was rather interesting. Was Jesus married to Mary Magdalene? I don't know. However I have always felt that Mary Magdalene got the short end of the stick as far as how her reputation has been portrayed. I also believe that desperate men will do anything to keep a woman down.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not a man-hater. I've been very fortunate to know some really exceptionally wonderful men in my life. However, if you look at history, men will do some of the most vile and heinous things to gain power. Is that what happened to Mary M? Because she possibly was the "beloved disciple," and she happened to be a woman, her contributions to the life of Jesus Christ were all but erased?

I didn't know about any of this until my friend Emma mentioned reading a book called "The Gnostic Gospels." We were only able to talk about it briefly, but she mentioned about the books of the bible that have only been found within the last 50 years. The Gospel of Thomas, The Gospel of _____ (?) and the The Gospel of Mary.

In addition John, a friend at work, mentioned that he had been seeing some information on the History Channel that was along the same line. His interest was piqued when he had read the book "The Da Vinci Code."

Very interesting stuff, indeed. What parts of it are true and what part is conjecture? We may never know while we are in this life as we know it now, but we will find out.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

Cats are weird little creatures. Earlier this evening, Shelby was sitting on the arm of the couch having a coughing fit and Fred felt it necessary to swat her. Shelby is known for having stinky breath, but it seems that swatting during a coughing fit is just plain rude even if she has stinky breath.

Fred and Shelby have spent more time together than with any humans in the last 3 years, however Fred still contends that she doesn't like Shelby. I don't really believe her, but Shelby and I let her have her little delusion. She's old, (15) so I guess she deserves to be cranky.

In my attempt to play a joke on my nephew, it ended up backfiring on me. Eric didn't like that his Mom's blog was playing music and he told her so, complete with the "f" word. (No biggie, the "f" word is a common occurrence in Eric's speech. He loves it so!) So, just for grins and giggles, I put the the theme song to "Sponge Bob Squarepants" on mine. It was funny the first couple of times, but then it got very very annoying. So, Eric won...I admit it. I have taken music off my blog because it not only drives him crazy, but me as well!

Yesterday was a fine day. I wore my telecommuter costume to work and everyone knew it was just because I wanted to find a way to wear my pj's to work. They were right.

I called Jef to let him know that I was experiencing some Halloween Horror in the form of Belinda Carlisle on the radio singing "Heaven is a Place on Earth." He empathized but then said he was going to teach Julie the lyrics to "Circles in the Sand." I am choosing to believe that he was possessed by evil spirits when he said that.

So after torturing me, he invited me over. They were on the front porch antagonizing Trick or Treaters. I was also tempted by Queso dip. Who can turn down Queso, I ask you?

So I sat down with the crew on the porch, Witchy Julie, Sailor Mark and his Sailor boyfriend, (a very nice bloke, but I forgot his name! Sorry!) and Sporty Spice Jef. 2F was dressed as the Grim Reaper and scared the beejeezus out of a lot of kids. It was fun!

My favorites were 3 teenaged girls that didn't even bother to dress up and had cute little bags for treats. Even though they wanted treats, they didn't want to have to go near 2F to get them. So they stretched toward him and ran away giggling.

After that we went to "Six Feet Under" which is a little fish joint across from the Oakland Cemetery. Very appropriate, doncha think? It was a really nice night. Clear sky, temperature cool, but not too cool. We sat on the patio and talked pleasantly about dead Rock Stars.

All in all a great evening!

Oh! Send all of your positive vibes to Merrideth on Sunday at 9pm because that is when she'll be auditioning for "Chicago." I think she would be a PERFECT Roxy Hart! BREAK A LEG, Merr!

Today I'm thankful for sleeping late, good friends, pajamas, and too much Halloween candy. What are you thankful for?
